It Began with a CRASH…
The node that you and the others were in just froze up. ICE? Sizzle. Pop. Data fragments sundered. Senses blurred. You were in so deep that you couldn’t get out without losing all that you worked for. So you decided to hack whatever was behind the node. Nothing to lose. Everyone else was trying the same thing. You didn’t want to leave empty handed this time. So close to finding the Truth behind everything. That’s when it happened. Something inhuman reached out to you online. You can’t remember—yet. Everything’s changed. Time to run. They’re coming for you. They’re coming for everyone!
What Is NetWhere?
NetWhere is a role-playing game about virtual reality and self-discovery inspired and empowered by Meguey Baker’s Psi*Run game from Night Sky Games, http://www.nightskygames.com.
INTENTIONS: The point of NetWhere is that the characters are compelled internally to look for answers and then to do something interesting with the discovered info. Everyone in the group should strive to reincorporate the ideas of the game as well as to challenge the veracity of the Truth as they understand it.
NetWhere is designed as a multi-session game about Hackers searching for the Truth while avoiding capture by the Agents of Truth. Hackers are exceptional people who straddle the edge of reality between virtual worlds and whatever remains of the real world.
This includes adventures that take place:
- Primarily inside a virtual reality similar to, or nothing like our own (The Matrix, Tron, Inception).
- Points of conflict resolved through a surreal, augmented, or unexplainable layering or change to our world (The Adjustment Bureau, Dark City).
- Parallel stories between this world and at least one other (The Matrix, Inception, Dark City).
It’s your job as Hackers to find the Truth and decide what to do with it once you’ve got it before the Agents of Truth can stop you.
